Breaking up with perfectionism
Share
I already had a bad relationship with perfectionism but when I started to create more digital artwork it began feeding this self-critical behaviour on a whole other level.
The ability to erase and repeat made the process to controlled and rigid, loosing the essence of creativity along the way. It wasn’t only the tools that were creating this cycle, it was my mindset.
When I began my digital creative practice, I often wished I had tools that felt more tactile, something that welcomed imperfection instead of smoothing it away.
I started experimenting to create my own Procreate brush set that replicated my traditional painting style & techniques, resulting in a simple collection of essential brushes that embraces the imperfections, the raw and organic motions of traditional painting.
While the brushes offer the foundations for creating more organic feeling digital art, it is the shift in mindset that truly unlocks their potential - helping to embrace imperfection, loosen your grip and create with more freedom and authenticity.
These mindset shifts naturally emerged during the process, ones I felt held value for any creative looking to release perfectionism and allow more openness for expressive digital creativity.
This took shape in the form of a short guide, a free offering from one creative to another, of insights & invitations to weave into your creative practice to make art with more freedom & fluidity.
Originally this guide was created to act as a supporting document to my Essential Ink Brush Set, but I felt this guide may offer value beyond just the tools.
